Looking for the perfect date night or evening out on the town with friends? The Hargray Capitol Theatre in downtown Macon provides the perfect setting – grab a bite at one of the local restaurants and then head to the Theatre for a show. Voted best venue for live music, the Hargray’s lower-level open floor plan plus comfortable balcony seating sets the stage for enjoyment of music, film productions, and other entertainment.
The Capitol Theatre opened its doors for the first time on November 10, 1916 as a movie theater. Gradually, attendance declined; the Capitol Theatre closed its doors in 1976 and fell into neglect. The journey to restore its dignity began in 2003 and its doors reopened as Cox Capitol Theatre in 2006 as a cornerstone in the revitalization effort in downtown Macon.
By 2013, The Moonhanger Group entered a long-term management agreement with the theatre. Renamed Hargray Capitol Theatre in 2018, the commitment to the culture of downtown Macon remains as a symbol of community with a diverse lineup of entertainment. Create a unique event of your own and rent the Hargray for receptions, parties, and fundraisers.
